Private Property -- R.I.P.

The Supreme Court shredded the Takings Clause of the 5th Amendment today.

You can save up for years to buy property, and if a developer comes in and wants to build on an area that includes your property, and the local governing body decides that this private developer's plan is "in the public interest," it doesn't matter if you don't want to sell and have to move and purchase another place, or that you might not even get replacement cost for your property.

Now they are allowed to declare that "emminent domain" and spurring economic development justify taking private property from one person/family (private entity) and giving it to another person/corporation (private entity).

Corporate Welfare, indeed.
